SceneMill is a modern desktop video editor for fast, precise editing. Cut on a multi-track timeline, add titles, transitions, effects and sound, and export for wherever you publish.

Free. No watermark. No account. For Windows 11.

The SceneMill editor: the title library on the left, a preview of a white sports car with the title “Track Day”, the inspector on the right and a timeline with a title track above three video clips.

The whole edit in one window

Media, viewer, inspector and timeline sit together. Everything below is in the application today; the pictures are the real program, not mock-ups.

Timeline

Drag clips onto as many video and audio tracks as the edit needs. Split at the playhead, trim an edge, ripple-delete a gap. Clips snap to cuts, markers and the playhead, and every step can be undone.

  • Video, audio and subtitle tracks with mute, solo, hide and lock
  • J-K-L shuttle, frame stepping, markers and In/Out ranges
  • Compound clips fold a finished section into one clip
SceneMill's timeline: a sticker on video track 2, three video clips with thumbnails on track 1, and three audio tracks with waveforms, the playhead near the start.

Titles and subtitles

76 animated titles, from lower thirds to film titles. Drag one onto the timeline and type your own words; font, size, spacing, outline, shadow and background are in the inspector.

  • Subtitles by hand, from SRT or WebVTT, or transcribed automatically on your own computer
  • Burn subtitles into the picture or export them as a file
  • 55 animated stickers: arrows, call-outs, subscribe buttons and more
The title library with categories such as Lower Thirds, Cinematic and Gaming, and the film title “The Journey” selected in the viewer.

Effects, color and transitions

101 effects and color looks and 49 transitions, each with a live preview before you commit. Hover to see it, drag it onto a clip or a cut, then set it with sliders.

  • Color correction, curves, color wheels and .cube LUTs, with scopes
  • Copy a grade from one clip to others, or save it as your own preset
  • Masks, chroma key, stabilization and motion tracking
The SceneMill window with the color presets Warm, Cool, Punchy, Faded Film, Black & White and Teal & Orange, a preview of a red car on a forest road, the color correction sliders in the inspector and the timeline below.
The transition library: categories such as Slide & Wipe, Zoom & Spin and Motion Blur, with preview cards.
The curve editor showing the scale of a clip rising with an overshoot, with easing presets from Linear to Bounce below the graph.

Keyframes and curves

Every numeric setting can be keyframed: position, scale, opacity, effect amounts, volume. Shape how a value moves in the curve editor, or pick an easing such as Smooth, Overshoot or Bounce.

  • Select, move and ease several keys at once
  • Speed changes and speed ramps
  • Ready-made motion: Ken Burns, zooms, pans, fades and slides

A real desktop application

SceneMill is an independent project. It is installed on your computer, opens your files where they are and keeps working when the internet does not.

Native
Written in C++ with Qt and FFmpeg. A Windows program, not a browser tab.
Local
Projects and media stay on your disk. No account, no telemetry, no uploads. Automatic subtitles are transcribed on your computer.
Preview
Proxies for heavy footage, preview quality from full to quarter, and a render cache for demanding sections.
Export
H.264 and H.265 MP4, VP9 WebM and GIF, up to 4K. Uses your graphics card's encoder (NVENC, Quick Sync, AMF) if you like. Preview and export share one renderer.
Formats
Opens MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and WMV; PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP and TIFF; WAV, MP3, AAC, FLAC and OGG.
Safety
Autosave, crash recovery and undo for every edit. An export only replaces a file once it has finished.
